Two Ford Le Mans Winners In LEGO Form
Lego is celebrating Ford GT’s victory in the 2016 Le Mans 24 Hour by producing a LEGO version of two iconic cars: the 1966 Ford GT40 and this year’s winner, the new Ford GT. The two miniatures are part you the new Speed Champions collection.
Craig Callum, LEGO lead designer, said that he was particularly excited about these cars, having made 10 prototypes before selecting the last two versions. The designer confessed that this was a dream project for him.
The cars were designed for children, with adult fans in mind. We can’t forget that, for example, the Ford GT40 is one of the most iconic race cars of all time. The new version is also awesome, and reunited a lot of attention because of the Le Mans 24 Hour victory.
Both Ford GT miniatures come with racing driver figures, trophy and a checkered flag and are due to be released this month.
The 1966 24 Hours of Le Mans was the 34th Grand Prix of Endurance. This was the first win at LeMans for the Ford GT40 and the first win for an American car company.
