Designer Heron Preston collaborated with NASA to create his new collection
New York designer Heron Preston rose to fame in the last two years as a personal friend to Virgil Abloh.
He has collaborated with Virgil Abloh and Kanye West and one of his first jobs was designing for the New York City Department of Sanitation. He gradually became a cultural icon in youth culture in his own name.
Now, he just presented his new collection called Public Figure at Paris Menswear Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2018-2019. Public Figure is a mock of the celebrity culture in the digital age, which is his core business client.
Now, Preston’s label just made a special collaboration with NASA. The collaboration is a reinterpretation of the classic space suit worn by Neil Armstrong. The pieces feature the same American flags and NASA logos as the original suits used between 1975 and 1992.
The collection features jackets, backpacks, belt bags and totes symbolic of the agency’s space conquests. Moreover, the collection marks NASA’s 60th anniversary. For the collection, Heron needed to get NASA’s permission to use the agency’s 1975 logo on the clothes.
Finally, the NASA capsule by Heron Preston will be available in stores and online on July 27.
