The Pi Bike is a celebration of Pi Day

14th March is Pi Day. Pi Day is an annual celebration of the mathematical constant π and is observed on March 14 since 3, 1, and 4 are the first three significant digits of π. Now, there is a Pi Bike.

To celebrate Pi Day, Martijn Koomenand Tadas Maksimovasa, two talented designers, designed and built the Pi Bicycle. The Pi Bicycle is a fixed gear bicycle with a handmade carbon fibre frame. It is, of course, in the shape of the π symbol.

This bike took a year to design and build after the artists saw an illustration of a Pi Bike by a Malaysian artist. Contrary to what you could think, this is a fully functional bicycle.

The designers started by making moulds to cast the frame in resin and then sanded it down and assembled the bike. The final moulds feature stronger carbon fibre.

This beautiful design is a great homage to Pi, one of the most iconic symbols of maths.
