The new 2018 FIFA World Cup Match Ball is an homage to a classic
The 2018 FIFA World Cup will happen in Russia. People are already getting sneek peeks of what can be expected then. Adidas just unveiled the official match football for the World Cup: the Telstar 18.
The name of the ball is an homage to the first football created by the german brand almost 50 years ago for the Mexico World Cup, the Telstar.
The name of the original ball “Telstar” came from “star of television,” as it was the first ball to be decorated with black panels to stand out on black-and-white TVs. This might seem obvious today, but was a major design evolution at the time.
The new Telstar 18 features a brand new carcass with elements such as recycled backing material. In addition, it features a new panel design with metallic print execution and texture graphic effect. The ball also features an embedded NFC chip, allowing consumers to interact with the ball using a smartphone, allowing to unlock exclusive content and information for the user.
Lionel Messi, argentina player and one of the best football players of the world said recently that he already had the chance to test the ball. The player said that he loves everything about it: the new design, the colours, everything.
The Telstar 18 will be available to purchase in adidas retailers worldwide and online very soon. Stay tuned for news!
